Zayd Ahmed secures acquittal in high profile Yarl’s Wood Detention Centre escape trial

Zayd Ahmed secured a unanimous not guilty verdict for his client charged with violent disorder and criminal damage.

The trial concerned violence arising as part of the high profile escape of 13 detainees from Yarl’s Wood.

Over the course of the three-week trial, Zayd successfully advanced the defence that that his client, the fourth defendant, was not involved in any violent disorder or criminal damage that occurred when the defendants escaped.

The case involved analysing the weaknesses of the CCTV, demonstrating shortcomings in the police and internal investigation, and drawing the jury’s attention to failures on the part of the detention authority – the client was unanimously acquitted.
