Zayd Ahmed was instructed to represent the defendant, who was alleged to have raped his girlfriend at knifepoint, beaten her causing serious injuries, strangled her, and threatened to kill her if she told anyone what he had allegedly done. The defendant had pleaded guilty at an earlier stage to possession of a bladed article.
Zayd challenged the prosecution’s case by carefully reviewing CCTV footage, analysing the investigation log, and considering impartial evidence, including the defendant’s phone.
Furthermore, Zayd successfully made a Section 41 application, excluding certain evidence, including hearsay.
After eight days of evidence, the jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty.
